It is one of the most widely used, mild and highly selective oxidants in modern organic synthesis. It is mainly used to oxidize primary alcohols to corresponding aldehydes and secondary alcohols to ketones. The oxidation reaction conditions of DMP to alcohol are very mild, generally feeding at low temperature and reacting at room temperature. Most reactions complete within minutes to hours, and yields are normally maintained at relatively high or very high levels. Its advantages are mild reaction conditions, moderate speed, less dosage and simple post-processing.
