Orientin (sesquiterpene)

Overview

Orientin sesquiterpene is an antioxidant with oral activity and blood-brain barrier permeability, which inhibits AChE , BChE , PTP1B , RLAR and BACE1 . Orientin sesquiterpene scavenges DPPH , NO and peroxynitrite anion free radicals, inhibits the production of total ROS , and alleviates oxidative stress in neural tissues. Orientin sesquiterpene inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria. Orientin sesquiterpene regulates serum corticosterone and catecholamine levels, enhances the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and synapse-related proteins, and increases the concentrations of serotonin and norepinephrine in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. Orientin sesquiterpene alleviates chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS)-induced depressive-like behaviors in mice and exerts a protective effect against noise-induced cognitive decline. Orientin sesquiterpene can be used in studies related to Alzheimer's disease, bacterial infections and depression.
