Mal-amido-PEG1-C2-NHS ester is a small molecule featuring both an NHS ester and a maleimide. The NHS is easily displaced by amine nucleophiles to form amides with target molecules while maleimide is a thiol-specific covalent motif which is used to label reduced cysteines in proteins.
