2-(ISOPROPYLAMINO)ETHANOL Usage And Synthesis
Chemical PropertiesAmber to straw-colored liquid. Combustible.
Uses2-(Isopropylamino)ethanol may be used in the synthesis of heterocyclic N,O-acetals.
UsesSynthesis of emulsifiers.
DefinitionA commercial mixture of approximately 60% isopropylethanolamine ((CH3)2CHNHCH2CH2OH) and 40% isopropyldiethanolamine ((CH3)2CHN(CH2CH2OH).
General DescriptionAn amber to straw colored liquid. Slightly less dense than water. Flash point 150°F. May emit toxic oxides of nitrogen at high temperatures. Used to make other chemicals.
Air & Water ReactionsHighly flammable. Slightly soluble in water
Reactivity Profile2-(ISOPROPYLAMINO)ETHANOL is an aminoalcohol. Amines are chemical bases. They neutralize acids to form salts plus water. These acid-base reactions are exothermic. The amount of heat that is evolved per mole of amine in a neutralization is largely independent of the strength of the amine as a base. Amines may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen is generated by amines in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides.
Health HazardInhalation or contact with material may irritate or burn skin and eyes. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution.
