Uses	EGTA Tetrasodium is a chelating agent useful in the determination of calcium.
Uses	A chelating agent useful for the determination of calcium in the presence of magnesium. Repeated washing with EGTA-buffer can experimentally deplete cultured cells of Ca²⁺.
Biochem/physiol Actions	Ethylene glycol-bis(β-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N′,N′-tetra acetic acid tetrasodium salt (EGTA) dissociates mucin complex and is useful in immunohistochemical studies. It suppresses root growth and mitotic index in germinating wheat seeds. It is used as a decalifying agent in root canal biomechanical preparation and is effective compared to EDTA and cyclohexanediaminetetraacetic acid (CDTA).
