It is mainly used for closed anesthesia and general anesthesia.? | | Uses | Tiletamine is a receptor antagonist, an anesthetic drug. Tiletamine is related chemically and pharmacologically to other anesthetics in this family such as ketamine and phencyclidine. | | Indications | Tiletamine hydrochloride/zolazepam hydrochloride is used for chemical immobilization and surgical anesthesia in a wide variety of carnivores, artiodactylids, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. | | Veterinary Drugs and Treatments | Telazol® is indicated for restraint or anesthesia combined with muscle relaxation in cats, and for restraint and minor procedures of short duration (≈30 minutes) which require mild to moderate analgesia in dogs. Although not officially approved, it has been used also in horses and many exotic and wild species. | | Mode of action | Tiletamine hydrochloride is a dissociative anesthetic agent whose pharmacologic action is characterized by profound analgesia, normal pharyngeal-laryngeal reflexes and cataleptoid anesthesia.
