UsesSulforhodamine B (SRB) is known for use in SRB assay for the determination of in vitro cytotoxicity through staining and the observation of live cells, proliferation and drug screening.It has been used in the SRB assay to evaluate the effect of mouthwashes on protein content in primary cultures of human fibroblasts.It is also suitable as a microscopic tracer for the assessment of blood-brain barrier integrity by post mortem inspection of frozen sections. SRB is useful as a caries detector dye with subsequent inspection of histological material.

General DescriptionSulforhodamine B (SRB) is a bright-pink aminoxanthene dye. The sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay is extensively used for in vitro cytotoxicity screening. SRB binds to the protein constituents of the cells in a stoichiometric manner. Thus, the amount of dye extracted from stained cells is directly proportional to the cell mass. SRB can also be used for cell density determination.
