Chemical Properties	Holmium(III) nitrate pentahydrate is yellow to orange crystalline powder or crystals
Uses	Holmium Nitrate has specialized uses in ceramics, glass, phosphors and metal halide lamp, and catalyst. It is also used in Yttrium-Iron-Garnet (YIG) and Yttrium-Lanthanum-Fluoride (YLF) solid-state lasers found in microwave equipment (which are in turn found in a variety of medical and dental settings).
Uses	Holmium(III) nitrate pentahydrate is used to prepare holmium-beta-cyclodextrin complex by reacting with beta- cyclodextrin, which posses potential pharmacological applications.
Uses	Ho(NO₃)₃ may be used as a precursor during the synthesis of GdVO₄:Ln³⁺/Yb³⁺ (Ln³⁺ = Er³⁺, Ho³⁺, Tm³⁺, Tm³⁺/Ho³⁺/Er³⁺) by chemical co-precipitation technique. It may be used to prepare poly[[tetraaquadi-μ₅-fumarato-μ₄-fumaratodiholmium(III)] trihydrate].
