Health). | | General Description | Cloprostenol sodium (Estrumate)is available as the sodium salt from Bayer AgriculturalDivision or Bayvet Division of Miles Laboratory as an aqueoussolution containing 250 mg/mL. | | Biological Activity | Water-soluble prostaglandin F 2 α (PGF 2 α ) analog; acts as a potent FP receptor agonist (EC 50 = 0.84 nM). Potently inhibits differentiation of adipocyte precursor cells. Luteolytic agent in vivo . | | Veterinary Drugs and Treatments | Cloprostenol is approved for use in beef or dairy cattle to induce
luteolysis. It is recommended by the manufacturer for unobserved

abortions after mismating, and to schedule estrus and ovulation for
controlled breeding.
Cloprostenol has been used in dogs for pregnancy termination
and treatment of open pyometra. The use of cloprostenol for pyometra
is controversial as some believe dinoprost (PGF2alpha) is
