| Background and overview | Cedar wood oil is an important natural plant fragrance, belonging to the aromatic oil, which is a light yellow to yellow clear oily liquid with the characteristic aroma of cypress wood. The main components of cedar oil are α-cedrene, β-cedrene, cedrol and cedar wood, etc. It can be processed into a series of products for the formulation of perfumes for make-up and soap. Cypress oil can be extracted from the dry roots of cypress tree, being one of China's major exported essential oils.
| | Production method | It is sensitive to light, being soluble in 10-20 parts 90% ethanol, insoluble in water. The relative density is 0.94-0.95. Specific rotation -25 ~ -46°. Flash point of 110 ℃. Cedar root, trunk or its waste are used as raw material; use steam distillation to obtain crude oil with the oil rate of 1-6%. Cedar crude oil was fractionated to obtain refined cedar oil.
