Magnesium fluosilicate Usage And Synthesis
General DescriptionCrystalline solid. Decomposes at 120°C. Contact may cause slight irritation to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. May be slightly toxic by ingestion. Used to make other chemicals.
Air & Water ReactionsWater soluble.
Reactivity ProfileMagnesium fluosilicate gives basic aqueous solutions. Reacts with acids. Does not usually react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents.
Health HazardHighly toxic, may be fatal if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through skin. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.
Fire HazardNon-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff may pollute waterways.
Flammability and ExplosibilityNonflammable
Safety ProfileModerately toxic by ingestion. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic vapors of magnesium and F-.
