Sodium orthovanadate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertieswhite to off-white powder
UsesSodium orthovanadate is an alkaline phosphatase and (Na,K)-ATPase inhibitor with IC50 of 10 μM.
UsesSodium Orthovanadate is an inhibitor of several phosphatases and kinases. General inhibitor of tyrosine phosphatases, a large family of enzymes that catalyze the removal of phosphate groups from tyrosine residues.
UsesSodium orthovanadate (Na3VO4) can be used as a metal precursor in the synthesis of:Vanadium-MCM-48 (V-MCM-48) by anion-exchange method. V-MCM-48 is used as a catalyst in oxidation of styrene to benzaldehyde.Nanorods of vanadium oxide particles by glycothermal method.Yttrium vanadate (YVO4) doped with colloidal europium.
HazardPoison by ingestion.
Biological ActivityInhibitor of protein tyrosine phosphatases, alkaline phosphatases and ATPases.
Biochem/physiol ActionsSodium orthovandate suppresses the activation of p53-mediated apoptosis triggered in response to radiation. It reduces the detrimental effects of hematopoietic syndrome, hematopoiesis and delayed genotoxic effects of induced by total body irradiation of mice.24 In combination with menadione, orthovandate prevents the migration of detached human glioma cells in response to anti-cancer drugs.25
Safety ProfilePoison by ingestion, intraperitoneal, intravenous, and subcutaneous routes. Experimental reproductive effects. Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of VOx and NazO. See also VANADIUM COMPOUNDS.
