CIS-STILBENE Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertiespale yellow liquid
Usescis-Stilbene: stilbene and its natural derivatives such as resveratrol and vitisins inhibits Staphylococcus aureus hemolytic activity and biofilm formation without affecting its bacterial growth
General DescriptionOily yellow liquid. Freezing point 5°C. Insoluble in water. Soluble in ethanol. Unstable relative to the trans isomer, which is a solid with a melting point of 122-124°C.
Air & Water ReactionsSensitive to prolonged exposure to air and light [Lancaster]. Insoluble in water.
Reactivity ProfileCIS-STILBENE may react vigorously with strong oxidizing agents. May react exothermically with reducing agents to release gaseous hydrogen.
Fire HazardFlash point data for CIS-STILBENE are not available, however CIS-STILBENE is probably combustible.
Purification MethodsPurify it by chromatography on alumina using hexane and distil it under vacuum. (The final product contains ca 0.1% of the trans-isomer.) [Lewis et al. J Am Chem Soc 107 203 1985, Saltiel J Phys Chem 91 2755 1987, Beilstein 5 H 630.]
