It is a precursor of nitric oxide synthesis that induces vasodilation in vivo, there by relaxing blood vessels. It is also used in the treatment of angina and other cardiovascular problems. It is an important intermediate in the urea cycle and involved in the detoxification of nitrogenous wastes.
