General DescriptionPhosphatidylethanolamine is an aminophospholipid, which is found in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. It is one of the most abundant glycerophospholipids in biological membranes. Phosphatidylethanolamine is found in nervous tissue.
Biochem/physiol ActionsPhosphatidylethanolamine forms pure lipid structures. It modulates membrane fluidity in eukaryotic cells. Phosphatidylethanolamine plays an important role in autophagy, cell division and protein folding. It acts as a precursor for the synthesis of various protein modifications. Phosphatidylethanolamine functions as an intermediate for the synthesis of glycerophospholipid classes.
