DMPX (3,7-Dimethyl-1-propargylxanthine) is a selective A 2A adenosine receptor ( A 2A AR ) antagonist that crosses the blood-brain barrier, with a K i of 11 μM for rat A 2 adenosine receptor and a K i of 45 μM for rat A 1 adenosine receptor . By blocking A2A receptors in specific brain regions, DMPX protects dopaminergic and GABAergic neurons from mitochondrial dysfunction. DMPX is applicable to research related to depression, Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease.
