SMPT

Overview

SMPT is a heterobifunctional cross-linker that reacts with sulfhydryl and amine groups, commonly used to conjugate toxin molecules to monoclonal antibodies targeting cell-surface antigens. Immunotoxins produced with SMPT exhibit enhanced cytotoxicity due to its cleavable disulfide bond, which increases potency compared to non-cleavable conjugates like those made with SPDP. Its structure, featuring a benzene ring and a methyl group near the disulfide bond, provides exceptional in vivo stability, while its resistance to hydrolysis enhances durability in aqueous solutions.
